About Essex 11 Plus Tutoring

Welcome to Essex 11 Plus Tutoring where I specialise in the CSSE 11 plus examination. My name is Helen, I am a fully qualified teacher based in Essex.  My goal is to help children reach their full potential to achieve great success in obtaining places at their chosen Essex grammar school.

Having received  a Bachelor of Education Degree at Homerton College, Cambridge University:  I then taught KS2 for 10 years  within the private and state sector in Essex.  I am now specialising in tutoring Year 4 and Year 5 children in small groups online in preparation for their 11 Plus CSSE examination.

Keeping on top of the latest pedagogy is very important to me.  This is reflected in my lessons where I make them current and relevant to the CSSE exam that they are to take. 

I am an Essex 11 plus tutor where I specialise in tutoring Year 4 and Year 5 children to prepare them to take their CSSE 11 plus exam.

The CSSE Essex 11 Plus is the 11 plus paper children will take if they are looking to apply for any of the following schools:

• King Edward VI Grammar School (for boys, in Chelmsford)
• Colchester County High School  for Girls
• Colchester Royal Grammar School (for boys)
• Southend High School for Girls
• Southend High School for Boys
• Westcliff High School for Girls
• Westcliff High School for Boys
• St. Bernard's High School  (for girls, in Westcliff)
• St. Thomas More High School  (for boys, in Westcliff)
• Shoeburyness High School (mixed)

I pride myself in offering small group lessons with no more than 6 or 7 children in a lesson. I have separate Year 4 and Year 5 classes,  I feel this is important as Year 4s are on a very  different stage to their 11 plus journey to Year 5s.  It is important that the level is pitched correctly for the children to maximise learning. My lessons are completely tailored to children preparing for the Essex CSSE 11 plus examination.  

I keep my lessons small on purpose, this is so that I can get to know the individual children well.  Homework will be set after each lesson  and personalised feedback will be given.

All my lessons are online, via Zoom.  There are many reasons that I teach online:

•  No time is wasted at the beginning or the  end of lesson unpacking or packing up.
• Children feel more comfortable in their home environment.
• Being online fits in better with many families as it is much more time efficient, there in no need to drive somewhere for  a lesson, wait and then drive back.
• If you are away on holiday or visiting family their is no need to miss a lesson!  Just bring your laptop and log on.
• Parents are able to hear what is happening in the lessons which is really helpful if your child asks for support when doing their homework.
